THE MOM TRUST PRIVACY POLICY

Effective date: November 1, 2007

The Mom Trust website (the Site) allows members to post messages to ask for advice on parenting related topics. Members may comment on posted messages publicly or privately. Members may also post items in The Marketplace in order to buy, sell, or give away items related to parenting. Members may contact other members privately to inquire about items posted in the Marketplace.

To read the full details of any posted message or item in the Marketplace, to post a message or item in the marketplace, or to contact another member, users must create an account at The Mom Trust and be logged in.

The Mom Trust understands and respects your concerns about the use of your personal information and takes your privacy seriously. We believe that you should know what information about you we collect, as well as how that information is used, maintained, and in some cases, shared. Please read the following to learn more about our privacy practices and policies (Privacy Policy).

This Privacy Policy covers how The Mom Trust treats personal information collected and received. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your email address, zip code, children's birthdates, children's genders, and that which is not otherwise publicly available.

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

The Mom Trust collects personal information when you register. When you register we ask for information such as your email address, children's birth dates, children's genders, and ZIP code. When you register with The Mom Trust and sign in to our community, you are not anonymous to us.

The Mom Trust automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, cookie information, and the page you request. The Mom Trust uses information for the following general purposes: to customize the advertising and content you see, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal and external clients.

Note: Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to register as a member of The Mom Trust or to use the Site.

USE AND SHARING OF INFORMATION

Your screen name and city are always displayed when you post a message, comment or marketplace item.

The headline and first line of every posted message in Messages and posted item in The Marketplace can be viewed by anyone visiting the Site. The full detail of your message or item in the Marketplace can only be viewed by other logged-in members of The Mom Trust. All public comments can be viewed by all logged-in members of The Mom Trust.

Any private comment is sent only to the member who posted the original message. Your email is only shared to that member when you tell us to send the private comment. We remind you that your email will be shared before you send the private comment so you can cancel as necessary.

The Mom Trust does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or non-affiliated companies, except under the following circumstances:

  • We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.
  • We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of The Mom Trust terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
  • We transfer information about you if The Mom Trust is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, The Mom Trust will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

The Mom Trust displays targeted advertisements based on personal information. Advertisers (including ad serving companies) may assume that people who interact with, view, or click targeted ads meet the targeting criteria - for example, women ages 18-54 from a particular geographic area. The Mom Trust does not provide any personal information to the advertiser when you interact with or view a targeted ad. However, by interacting with or viewing an ad you are consenting to the possibility that the advertiser will make the assumption that you meet the targeting criteria used to display the ad.

The Mom Trust may set and access cookies on your computer. Cookies are bits of information that are stored by your browser on your hard drive. This technology allows you to save your preferences, if applicable, and remembers you when you take action on the Site. You can turn off the cookie function through most standard browsers.

You may edit your Profile information, including your email preferences, at any time. New categories of email communications might be added to the Email Preferences from time to time. Users who visit this page can opt out of receiving future email communications from these new categories or they can unsubscribe by following instructions contained in the messages they receive.

We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to The Mom Trust service, such as service announcements and administrative messages without offering you the opportunity to opt out of receiving them.

THIRD PARTY INFORMATION

You agree that you have provided notice to, and obtained consent from, any third party individuals whose personal information you supply to us with regard to: (a) the purposes for which such third party's personal information has been collected; (b) the intended recipients or categories of recipients of the third party's personal information; (c) which of the third party's information is obligatory and which information, if any, is voluntary; and (d) how the third party can access and, if necessary, rectify the information held about them.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

If you are under the age of 13, please do not use or access this Site in any way. We will not knowingly collect or use any personal information from such children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected any personal information from children under 13, we will promptly delete such information from our databases.

OTHER WEBSITES

For your convenience, the Site may contain links to other websites, or you may be otherwise referred to other websites, including websites administered on behalf of The Mom Trust, as well as to websites unrelated to The Mom Trust. This Privacy Policy does not apply to these linked websites. Each website should be checked for its own privacy policy.

GENERAL PROVISIONS

By choosing to visit this website or otherwise provide information to The Mom Trust, you agree that any dispute over privacy or the terms contained in this Privacy Policy will be governed by the laws of the State of California.

The Mom Trust may update this policy at any time. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to you by email or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
